Helping people is not limit only money or material donation, but also giving valuable time and blood components to others. Mr.Phongsa Chingchai is one of 260 donors who willingly donated stem cells to a patient. Currently, Mr.Chingchai owns a small coffee shop in hishome town in Sunkumpang, Chiang Mai. Not only interested in coffee, but also in traveling, tree planting and music. He usually establish small concert in his own coffee shop for charity.

How to become stem cell donor?

“I do blood donation occasionally, not always. For example when blood donation mobile site comes here or I need to go the hospital or Thai Red Cross. I cannot remember when I registered to be a stem cell donor but I am confident in donating and want to help people”

How did you feel that day when you are matched with patient?

“I cannot really explain but I am very happy to hear (the good news) and called my mom afterwards.”

จุดเริ่มต้นของการให้

เริ่มต้นจากการบริจาคโลหิตเป็นประจำ กว่า 31 ครั้ง และได้มีโอกาสลงทะเบียนบริจาคสเต็มเซลล์ หลังจากการลงทะเบียนไปประมาณ 3 ปี จึงได้รับการติดต่อจากเจ้าหน้าที่ของศูนย์บริการโลหิตฯ พร้อมทั้งเชิญให้ผมเข้าไปที่ศูนย์บริการโลหิตฯ เพื่อทำความเข้าใจเรื่องการบริจาค รวมถึงให้รับทราบขั้นตอน และกระบวนการเก็บสเต็มเซลล์ ซึ่งผู้ป่วยเป็นคนเชื้อสายเอเชียที่มีสัญชาติเป็นอเมริกัน และป่วยเป็นโรคไขกระดูกฝ่อ

เมื่อทราบว่าสเต็มเซลล์ตรงกับชาวต่างชาติ

รู้สึกประหลาดใจมาก เพราะเขาเป็นผู้ป่วยคนละสัญชาติ คนละภาษา สเต็มเซลล์ของคนไทยด้วยกัน ผมก็ว่าเข้ากันได้ยากมากแล้ว แต่ผู้ป่วยเขาเป็นชาวต่างชาติ โอกาสยิ่งยากกว่า คนในครอบครัวเมื่อทราบข่าว ล้วนสนับสนุน และพูดเป็นเสียงเดียวกันว่า สเต็มเซลล์ คือโอกาสในการทำบุญครั้งหนึ่งของชีวิต

ประสบการณ์การบริจาคสเต็มเซลล์ทางกระแสโลหิต

เนื่องจากพยาบาลเห็นว่าผมมีเส้นโลหิตดำที่ใหญ่พอ ผมจึงได้บริจาคสเต็มเซลล์ทางกระแสโลหิต ใช้เวลาเพียง 4 ชั่วโมงเท่านั้น หลังจากการบริจาค สุขภาพร่างกายของผมแข็งแรงเป็นปกติดี ติดเพียงแค่ก่อนทำการบริจาค ตัวยา G-CSF ที่ฉีดเพื่อกระตุ้นการสร้างสเต็มเซลล์ในกระแสโลหิต ส่งผลให้ร่างกายปวดเมื่อย และง่วงนอนตลอดเวลา แต่สำหรับผมแล้ว นับว่าเป็นผลกระทบที่เล็กน้อยมาก

การบริจาคโลหิตก็ดี หรือการบริจาคสเต็มเซลล์ก็ดี ไม่ได้มีอะไรน่ากลัวอย่างที่คิด นอกจากจะได้บุญมากมายมหาศาลแล้ว ยังเป็นการสร้างเม็ดโลหิตใหม่ขึ้นมาทดแทน โดยที่เราไม่ได้สูญเสียอะไร นอกจากโลหิตเพียงไม่กี่ซีซีเท่านั้น ถ้าเราเป็นชาวพุทธ และมีความเชื่อเรื่องบุญเรื่องกรรม การทำแบบนี้เป็นการทำบุญ โดยที่เรายังมีชีวิตอยู่ และเรายังได้ซึมซาบความรู้สึกสุขเหล่านั้นด้วย

World Marrow Donor Day 2017

World Marrow Donor Day was set up by World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA) to let all the countries arranges a campaign to thank stem cell volunteer donors around the world. At present, there are over 30 million volunteers registered as a stem cell volunteer donor. Since 2002, National Blood Centre, Thai Red Cross Society is assigned by The Medical Council of Thailand to provide matched unrelated stem cell volunteer donors for the patients by establishing Thai National Stem Cell Donor Registry (TSCDR). Over 15 years, there were 209,983 volunteers registered as a stem cell volunteer donor. Altogether, there were 1,687 Thai patients requested for searching matched unrelated stem cell donor and 217 donors donated stem cell to the patients.

All the WMDA members have arranged activities on World Marrow Donor Day (WMDD). TSCDR have also arranged WMDD this year on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at National Blood Centre, Henri-Dunant Road, to thank stem cell donors and volunteers who registered as a stem cell donor together with the get-together of over 50 donors who donated stem cell for patients which is the largest numbers of donors gathering since the WMDD was organized in Thailand. Besides this, the certificate was giving to the first stem cell donor of Thailand who donated stem cells for 2 patients. Moreover, the people also can meet with the clinicians who specialized in stem cell transplantation from five major institutions of the country which perform stem cell transplantation such as King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Ramathibodi Hospital, Siriraj Hospital, Phramongkutklao Hospital and Songklanagarind Hospital. Join the seminar on the the topic ?The innovation of stem cell transplantation in the patient with hematologic diseases.? by the clinicians, the donors and the transplant patients. Visit the Hall of Fame exhibition ?15 years of journey to find stem cell matched donor?, booth of bone marrow transplant club, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thalaasemia club, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and Transplant Games Association of Thailand. Photo shoot activity with Hashtag #WMDD2017 or #thankyoudonnor. Blood donors who registered as stem cell volunteer donors at the event will receive World Marrow Donor Day T-shirt as a souvenir. There were more over 2,500 people attended the event, 284 new volunteers registered and 645 volunteers who had registered donate blood at the event.
