This would increase the chances of finding a match for a stem cell transplant which could give patients with blood diseases a chance at a new life. Miss Aff Taksaorn Paksukcharoen, a famous actress in Thailand has joined in donating blood in the “2nd year Blood Hero” project and registered to volunteer for stem cell donation to collect blood samples for HLA tissue testing for matches as another treatment opportunity for patients with various blood diseases to get a stem cell transplant at the National Blood Center of the Thai Red Cross society.

“Mario Maurer” would like to be another chance for a blood disorders patient.

(30th April 2021) Mr. Mario Maurer, a famous actor in Thailand came and joined in donating blood at the National Blood Centre of the Thai Red Cross Society in order to help patients during the blood shortage crisis from the current COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Maurer has also registered to volunteer for stem cell donation to collect blood samples for HLA tissue testing as another opportunity for patients with blood diseases who are waiting on stem cell transplants from donors with the same type of tissue.

Distance is not a problem

          Helping people is not limit only money or material donation, but also giving valuable time and blood components to others. Mr.Phongsa Chingchai is one of 260 donors who willingly donated stem cells to a patient. Currently, Mr.Chingchai owns a small coffee shop in hishome town in Sunkumpang, Chiang Mai. Not only interested in coffee, but also in traveling, tree planting and music. He usually establish small concert in his own coffee shop for charity.

How to become stem cell donor?

          “I do blood donation occasionally, not always. For example when blood donation mobile site comes here or I need to go the hospital or Thai Red Cross. I cannot remember when I registered to be a stem cell donor but I am confident in donating and want to help people”

How did you feel that day when you are matched with patient?

         “I cannot really explain but I am very happy to hear (the good news) and called my mom afterwards.”
